Why do some drivers forget to turn off their turn signal?

It is the most annoying thing on the freeway to see a driver that has a turn signal left on...and even more annoying when they change lanes in the opposite direction that their signal is blinking. How can you NOT see that annoying flashing light in your dashboard panel, or hear the ticking (unless you're listening to music).

Aside from answering this question, tell me what you do when this happens. For me, I sometimes will get behind the driver and turn my signal on and see how long it takes them to figure it out.Why do some drivers forget to turn off their turn signal?
i honk anyone who does that changing opposite lanes. (go left but your right signal is on) i absolutley hate that. i also hate people who talk on the phone while driving. it is beyond me why laws cannot be passed to make it illegal to drive and talk on a cell phone. the bottom line is its scary to drive because there are just so many accidents waiting to happen. between big rigs who feel the need to cut off traffic to go just a little faster and those people in fast cars whom the law obviously doesnt apply to, its a very dangerous road out there. though the funny thing is, you better not get into an accident, because whoever wasnt paying attention then will ream u out, no matter what, everyones a critc. Why do some drivers forget to turn off their turn signal?
My mom does this sometimes and it annoys the crap out of me. I also hate getting behind people that forget to turn off their signal. I think its a combination of not being able to hear well and just simply not paying attention.
It was easy to do that in my '84 pickup . The flasher made almost no noise, so if the windows were open or the radio on, you wouldn't know they didn't turn off.. The clear plastic cover over the gauges was tilted in such a way that in daylight, you couldn't see the blinking arrows either. Sometimes I'd ride for miles before I noticed it. It would piss ME off !! Maybe a lot of cars are like that, or everybody is riding around stoned !!
Most turn indicators make an audible clicking sound, newer vehicles will even sound the door-open alarm if the indicator is not turned off after about a mile. What it comes down to is not paying attention to what we do or don't do in the vehicle. If the indicator sticks and does not shut off after I've made a turn, I have to know that I have to manually disengage it. If I am only making a little lane change on the highway, I should keep a finger on the lever to make sure it gets shut off. It is just one of the little things we can all do to make sure that we are doing our part to help everybody to where we're going without ruining somebody's day. Like maybe my own.
some times i get destracted and dont turn it off but i quickley pick up on it and turn it off . ive never drove down the interstate with it on though
