Speed in car wreck to break a frame?

I was in a wreck with a little HYUNDAI, I had a2000 4 runner. The speed limited was 35mph I slow down to change lanes and then I was going to turn left about 50ft ahead. This HYUNDAI hit me so hard it bent the pillar post and bent my frame and totaled my car. How fast to you think this fool was going to bend my frame?Speed in car wreck to break a frame?
I don't know, but if a hyundai done that much damage, they were haulin the mail.Speed in car wreck to break a frame?
New cars and SUVs have a lot of crumple in them to absorb energy and protect the occupants. Your 4 runner may not even have a frame, but a unibody. That's where the frame IS the body. He could have hit you at just 20mph to do that.

People think that their SUVs are indestructable, they're just tall cars.
It doesn't always take a hard hit to do massive damage to those little cars. I would estimate speed at about 35-40
Cars today are designed to dissipate the energy from an accident through the rest of the body. The theory is the car is expendable in relation to the folks inside. Hard to say how fast they was going without some expertise in the trade and a whole lot more info

Just learning how to drive on actual roads/streets???

I'm 15 and we just started driving on actual roads the other day and I'm really nervous. Do you have any good tips or suggestions on how to make me more confident? Also I'm very nervous about changing lanes because i'm afraid I won't see a car coming behind me and I will get in a wreck. Thanks!Just learning how to drive on actual roads/streets???
The only way to get more confident is to practice, practice, practice! Just make sure you're always aware of what's around you(cars, motorcycles, people, whatever) and look before you start changing lanes. Always use your blinkers, and remember that so many people out there don't really watch for other cars, so you have to always be ready. Good luck! I';m sure you'll be a fine driver.Just learning how to drive on actual roads/streets???

What are some ideas for things we can all do to make our daily commutes more pleasant?

How about this: When somebody signals that they want to change lanes, instead of speeding up so that they can't merge into your lane, you just stay the same speed OR (God forbid) you UNSELFISHLY slow down so they can merge.... I dunno I think I'm asking too much.

More ideas. What are some ideas for things we can all do to make our daily commutes more pleasant?
i like where you're going with this....and how about if you leave home with enough time to get where you're going with out being an ****** every minute you're on the road....and hey, how about shaving or putting your makeup on BEFORE you get in the car? and get off my bumper coz i can only go as fast as the guy in front of me is going.....i don't think i'm asking too much....What are some ideas for things we can all do to make our daily commutes more pleasant?
I like to listen to party music and wave to everyone that drives by me
a beer tap at the ramp meter would be nice
take a handful of sedatives before leaving the house. lol
how about people not tailgating on the freeway when everyone is going 25 mph?? Or why doesn't everyone put their cell phones down and concentrate on the road?
curbside dancing...at red lights and stopped traffic....strippers

Interesting to see a traffic Q (which may make me very weird) I lived before in Atlanta, a fantastic city with an unbearable traffic problem. During my sometimes 2 hour commute I would alternately speed up or slow down. But during a recent big life change (non-traffic related) , I moved to Asia. I walk, or ride the bus everywhere, look at the things around me and talk to a lot of really interesting folks. I don't own a car. I'm also a much happier person.

So, there is my answer in short. :)
I would say the best thing to do is to move to the country so you ain't got to worry with traffic.
jimbo a serious question...i'm almost in shock!
  • how to break up with a girlfriend
  • computer won't start up
  • 3 questions about driving?

I just got my license a month ago so I would like some tips on driving:

    1. How do I change lanes into a lane where there are a ton of cars going extremely fast? In cases like this, I always take a u-turn.

    2. On the freeway, how many miles from my exit (1, 2, 1/2, etc.?), should I start to change into the right lane?

    3. How do I know if I am centered in my lane? I have seen people drive on the lines so I'm concerned that I might be doing the same thing.3 questions about driving?
    %26lt;%26gt;OK:

    1. This is a judgement call and as you gain experience so will your judgement improve. You always need to look further ahead (and behind) than the car closest to you. For instance, don't just watch the car in front of you when you drive...look 3, 4, 5, 6 cars ahead...that way, if something happens (a crash, for instance) you will know about it sooner. The same thing goes for your lane change. Look back as many car lengths as you can for the gaps, then judge if you can make it. Signal the change ahead of time and maybe, just maybe, someone will let you in.

    2. Get in the exit lane AT LEAST 1 mile ahead of time so you you don't have to do anything sudden to exit.

    3. Always keep your eyes moving ahead and behind. This includes looking at the lines on the road to see if you are hugging the center or edge. Again, you will get used to it as you get comfortable driving the car and get to know its dimensions.3 questions about driving?
newbie's you will learn all that crap they teach you in class is just that, CRAP. its different in the real world people on the freeway are inconsideret jerks. if you want in the fast lane you got to punch it and get it in there
    1. If you're unable to change lanes when cars are going extremely fast, either take the u-turn or go up aways and come back. You can avoid this by getting into the lane you need long before you need to be in, i.e. last minute.

    2. As soon as you are safely able to do so...again, plan ahead.

    3. Each lane of traffic for some reason has that dark residue line up the center of it. As many drivers ed instructor have told me and other.....this should appear in between the center of your hood %26amp; the left side of your car. You want to drive as close to the left of your lane as possible, w/o going onto the line or over into the adjacent lane.
    1) TO change into a lane that is going faster than yours, you need to speed up in your lane to match the speed of the cars in the other. Then, when you find a nice OPEN space, you ease into that lane (don't jerk over) while maintaining your speed.

    2) When you move over to the lane that your exit is in depends on the amount of traffic and how experienced a driver you are.

If there is a lot of traffic, get over as soon as you can, whether that be 3 or 10 miles from your exit. If traffic is light, I would say 2-3 miles ahead. You may have to slow down or speed up to get in to the lane if there is another car running along side of you. SO, again, depending on your experience, if you haven't practiced lane changing enough, start a good 5 miles back to give yourself time to get over.

    3) To stay centered in your lane, think about threading a needle. If you square up the thread to the needle at a distance, you are more likely to get it to go through, wheras, if you place the thread right up next to the needle, you hit the sides. So, when you are driving, look AHEAD about two car lengths when driving at speeds of 40 or less and about 100 yards down on the highway. Your brain is able to adjust to what is in front of you better when you look ahead because you can see both lanes easily. Keep yourself squared up to the road ahead and constantly moving between those two lines. Don't look directly in front of you because your view of the car and the road is warped and you will steer over onto the sides.

If there is glare at night, keep your eyes on the center lane line (the yellow one) and remain to the right of it. Don't look into oncoming cars' headlights.
    1. Match their speed. Keep watching for a space. When one nears, turn on your turn signal. Keep checking your mirrors as you make the change.

    2. Give yourself as much time as possible. Two miles isn't two early, half a mile is too late.

    3. Freeways usually have bumps to indicate when you're crossing the line. As you get more familiar with your car, you'll be able to determine your center point, and a place on your car to ';spot'; your position in the lane. Also, keep your focus far ahead of you; it will help you orient yourself in the lane.
if you need to change the lanes with lots of cars, turn your turn signal on to let those in that lane that you want over. there are a lot of jerks on the road but there should be someone nice enough to let you over.don't be afraid to slow down a little to let the other cars pass so you can slide in behind them.

you should start to get over as soon as you feel you need to. if it's really busy and you see an opening even if you'rea few miles away, go for it. it's better to be there too soon than too late. but on average i'd say about a mile or so. as long as you're not cutting off people that are trying to merge on.

It's a litle tricky at first and everyone picks up their own ways to help. Just keep a safe distance from the other cars, and you'll get the hang of it. time is the best teacher. have someone ride with you in the passenger seat if you want someone else to help you judge while you're getting used to things
1 - It isn't always legal to make a u-turn and more often it isn't safe. Sometimes it is best to drive down to an intersection and make a left onto a less traveled road so you can turn around safely and go back and use the intersection to enter the traffic.

2 - You should wait no later than about a mile before the exit. At this point you have about one minute left before you will be at your exit. When you are in the left lanes if you notice other cars passing you on the right, you need to move over at least one lane to the right.

3 - Use your side mirrors to see where you are and then notice where the very front of the hood ridge is in relation to the line that is supposed to be on the pavement on the right of the car, or use a parking space in a large parking lot (one that has a space in front of your space) to see where the front of the ridge is matching up with the line on the pavement on the right of the car.

Kudos to you for paying attention to the details. Sounds like you will make a good driver.

Lane change in a multiple lane setting?

How do you judge if the cars you see in the rear view mirror are on the lane right next to you or they are two lanes away from you when you make a right? I've been bothered by this problem and sometimes cannot really tell! My friend told me to do a shoulder check and I do but I still feel afraid whenever I make a right!Lane change in a multiple lane setting?
Sounds like your not ready to drive on that road. Drive when and where you are confident.

I was involve in an accident. The other driver vehicle hit my vehicle and how to report and file a claim to

This happen in Downtown San Francisco in Montgomery St. One way road with other special lanes and intersections. Driver vehicle should pass and change lane when it safe. Why do driving examiners do this?

i recently failed my driving test.

when the examine explained why i failed, 2 serious faults, 1st bay park and not looking out rear window, the 2nd was not using mirrors to change lane on a 2 lane right turn.

both of these faults occured very early in he test.

so why did the examiner just let me carry on as normal, taking you through difficult roads and situations. there's no point i had already failed, just makes u feel stupid

do they get some sort of sadistic pleasure from this.

btw both of these faults were not in themselves serious, unless i was be in danger of running over a squirrel, on the bay park and the right turn i had done with my instructor and had no problems.

i even overtook another learner taking there test on the duel carriageway, without a problem.surely how can he say i can't drive.

omg, it's true, driving instructors have have an agenda. Why do driving examiners do this?
Some of these people are just ';little people'; who take pleasure in showing their ****POWER**** This jerk should have stopped the driving exam when you made these errors, Or made it clear you had failed the test. Why do driving examiners do this?
Don't eat the rest of your meal - the first thing you ate was wrong.

At least this examiner prevented another crap newbie driver from killing someone!

I have always wondered this as well. Perhaps its just protocol or they have extra time until the next driving test appointment.
i think alot of them are on a power trip and most of the time as children they were the dorks lol
Once you begin the test the driving examiner has to take you through the entire test. In this way he can bring to your attention all your faults. The fact you had only two shows you did everything else right. Congratulations and better luck next time.
they put you through the entire test to see all your mistakes so they can tell you all the faults. if your faults were at the start then you must have been ok on all the rest of it.
Sorry about that , However he just wonted to know if you knew the rest of the course, Now you know you need to use the mirror out there if not they would not be on there I love my mirrors When I drive I see all around me , Now next time you go to take the test look in the mirrors They will help you I promise, Hope this helps. My grandson just took his driving test and I think the test varies from state to state
They will not stop your test unless you do something dangerous or life threatening
He let you continue so he could evaluate your performance completely. That way you're aware of everything that needs to be addressed.

If he failed you after the first mistake and stopped the driving test, it would take forever to pass.

You said you made two mistakes. If he followed your recommendation, you might have to do the test several times to get it right. Because as soon as a mistake happens, the test stops.

Do it his way and you find out all your faults in one test. This way you may need to only take the test one more time.
You paid for a test you got a test end of.
I think they let you carry on to make sure it was not just nerves that let you down at the start of the test. Smiler happened on my HGV test, on second test I carried out the reverse test, asked the examiner ';was that a pass'; ';NO'; so I stopped the test, when I told the instructor, he said I should have carried on I might have passed, but hay-ho, I passed next time
with driving instructers it all comes down to statistics
The test has to be conducted in a uniform manner meeting a number of legal requirements. One of these is that the car has to be on the road for a minimum of 30 minutes.

The examiner does not have the discretion to shorten the test unless the driving is dangerous at which point they can terminate the test. You as the test candidate can terminate the test at any point if you wish to do so.

Lets say for example that you commit a serious fault in the car park at the start of the test %26amp; the examiner ends the test, do you feel that a 2 minute test would be good value for money? Would you have learnt anything from the experience?

You say that the two serious faults you commited were not serious? What qualifies you to make this statement as a learner? The examiner is a highly experienced driver who has been specially trained to drive at a standard far higher than that required of normal drivers %26amp; assess the driving of others uniformly %26amp; fairly. Examiners have to pass many tests %26amp; complete a very tough training course %26amp; are regularly supervised to make sure they are doing the job correctly.

It sounds to me like the faults were correctly assessed. If you don't look out of the rear window whilst reversing how do you know what is behind you? Whilst there may not have been anything there on this occasion you need to demonstrate an understanding of the correct TECHNIQUE.

Not using mirrors when changing lane? Oh well thats fine isn't it? Get real. Your driving didn't meet the required standard, thats your fault not the examiners. You also need to sort out your attitude %26amp; stop believing that you know it all. You still have a great deal to learn about driving.
next time u take the test exagerate everything u do.....ie take a bit longer when checking your mirrors
How can it be safe to turn right without checking your mirror?

    ???????

    Doesn't make sense to me?

How can it be safe to bay park without looking out of the back window? Can you drive forwards without looking where you are going?

Sour grapes - you are not safe enough to hold a license. Drive properly on your next test and you will pass. Untill then, keep death off the roads!
    They're examiners, not instructors!
OK, So you failed your test.

Why was that I wonder? could it possibly be that you wern't up to the required standard?

Your previous question and this one both show that you are not mature enough or mentally prepared to be allowed to drive without supervision.

The reason you continue through a test is to ascertain ALL of your capabilities, not just up to the point that you fail.

You must realise that the driving test is not just to see how far you can complete the test, but to be examined on ALL of the requirements of driving and then to inform you of your improvement needs.

As for your comments about instructors / examiners driving like everybody else after their tests - at least they have passed, unlike you.

I suggest you grow up a bit and concentrate on your errors before condemning everybody else as being bad drivers.
    1. yes they are sadist jobsworths.

2.they have to take you out for the 30 minutes to justify the obscene amount of money they charge.

hey try again its rare for someone to pass first time anyway

Is it irresponsible to tell newbies that bikes are steered with ';weight shifting'; instead of counter steering?

Personally I find these threads and the ';advice'; from people who have been ';riding 20 years'; to be scary.

Counter steering is the only way to steer a motorcycle. Go talk to racers, cops, or anyone else who rides professionally, and tell them that pushing the bars makes for ';wide turns'; or ';wobbles'; and that ';weigh shifting'; is how to turn a bike fast at high speed, and enjoy being laughed at.

How are you guys doing simple things like changing lanes quickly or swerving around road debris? Heck, if weight shifting is what steers a motorcycle, why even touch the handlebars while you're going fast downhill through mountain passes? Just put the bike in neutral and weight shift your way through a hairpin. Is it irresponsible to tell newbies that bikes are steered with ';weight shifting'; instead of counter steering?
It is absolutely irresponsible. The only way you can turn at normal speeds is with countersteering. Is it irresponsible to tell newbies that bikes are steered with ';weight shifting'; instead of counter steering?
Nothing was said about ';performance handling';.

I didn't say you or the MSF instructor were wrong.

What I said was you left something out, and THAT is irresponsible!

    yes.
50/50 bc the bike will turne as you shift your weight.
most assuredly, yes, it is irresponsible to tell them that.
That March of the Penguins movie was good, but quickly became boring.
You have no clue and you obviously don't want to.

Be a BONE HEAD, not like I care.

Your failure to understand the simple dynamics of steering a bike means you won't be around long any way.
Yes and no. You really need both for proper cornering (i.e. you lean with the bike while using counter steering). Not leaning leaves really vulnerable for a high side flip, while leaning and not counter steering leaves you extremely vulnerable to losing the bike out from underneath you.
Kind of, I tell newbies about counter steering since you'll naturally lean if you must. Leaning is something you'll do without noticing, counter steering most don't even know of. Once they start counter steering they act like it's the greatest advice ever.
Absolutely. The only question about counter steering is how good you are at it, early on it is very difficult at slower speeds, with practice you get better. Pushing the bars is really only effective at speeds lower than you can effectively counter steer, and weight shifting is done in addition to, rather than instead of counter steering. There is a lot of BS out there about riding, if you look at countries (like the UK) where motorcycling is taken a lot more seriously than here in the US you don't find these kind of arguments.

Lets get serious about riding in the US - graduated standards to recognize those that know what they are doing - insurance breaks, clubs and courses that can help you really develop your skills.
I been thinking about this issue for quite a while. My experience is that 90% of the turn is leaning the bike.

The tighter the turn, the farther I lean.

I can zig-zag back and forth between the stripes on the roadway with my Harley at 55MPH by leaning the bike back and forth.....I can't remember having to counter-steer.

Maybe I'm doing it with out realizing this.
Yes it is! Just do a little test. Drive at a speed under 20 MPH and notice that when you turn you turn wheel to the left you go to the left. Now get on the highway and turn your wheel to the left. Guess what, you'll go to the right. That is counter steering. Learn to steer your motorcycle. Because in an emergency situation. Where you have to react quickly. And you haven't had enough experience. To have yourself programed to counter steer. You may hit what you are trying to miss. Because in your mind, you have always turned right, to go right. At speeds above 30 MPH . When you lean to the left, your left hand goes forward and your right hand pulls back. Thus turning the wheel to the right ,which makes you go left , the direction you are leaning. That is why some people think that leaning is the way . That works fine in normal driving situation. But in an emergency it could get you hurt, That is why it is so important to get counter steering programed in your mind. The good thing is, that all you have to do is always steer you motorcycle to get this in your subconscious where it becomes automatic. There are a number of things you can do to become a better rider. But if you don't get the counter steering down. Emergency situations just won't have the same outcome. I have been riding most all makes and models of motorcycles including dirt bikes for over 40 years. Have I been down yes. Have I been hurt, very minor. Worst injury burning my leg , while looking in the mirror and combing my hair. And yes I had shorts on. Be safe and have fun!
Its completely irresponsible to tell people that weight shifting is what turns a bike.

Countersteering is what turns a bike. This is physics not opinion.

It scares me that people who say they've been riding a long time just don't get it. Shifting weight does not turn a bike!

Leaning with the motorcycle and leaning off the motorcycle effectivly lower the center of gravity of the rider and the motorcycle. The lower the center of gravity, the less lean you need to take a turn and the more traction you will have while taking the turn. If you were at a high speed and turned the bike in one way and leaned the other you'd probably end up on the ground (don't try this). At low speed it works but thats because at very low speeds you don't countersteer.

Check out the link. Its an interesting experiment that proves countersteering.
Counter steer.........VS/ weight shift?? Real easy to prove that counter steer is the only way a bike turns above + or - , 18 mph. OK, sense you cant afford to weld your bars straight, so as the bike can not be turned. Do the next best thing...........Take a pair of roller skates, or a skate board and weld the wheels straight forward and LEAN or put your weight to one side and see if you turn. you won't......Better yet take a board maybe 6 ft long, screw a front and rear wheel

on the board so as the wheels cant turn left or right. Push the board foreword and lean the board as far as you want to represent a rider putting all his weight to one side as you would do on ANY motorcycle. You will find that you can lean it as far as you want and it WONT turn left or right.......... I KNOW

some of you are going to say you lean YOUR bike and transfer weight and it turns , so that should prove leaning, and weight transfer is turning your bike. .........WRONG, what is happening is your weight and lean is AUTOMATICLY putting the FRONT TIRE into a COUNTERSTEER with out YOU realizing it. NOW if you lean, AND, push on the handle bar you will FORCE the bike in to a greater counter steer and it will TURN as fast, or as much as you want. A HARD FORCED PUSH on the bar,(along with lean or weight shift) is the only way to create an (immediate) emergency maneuver to AVOID a rear ender, a tire on the highway, etc........yes weight shift and lean will assist turning........BUT, but without counter steer, your bike is not going to steer!

Here is the best DVD in the world....newbe to 60 years riding experence. www.ridelikeapro.com
You may have noticed I don't give riding advice to newbies.

I taught myself, and have not had the benefit of a follow-up class. I've been riding for 18 years now, and I never heard or saw the term used in reference to motorcycles until last year. I understand it, because I was already doing it. Many have said ';you steer this way';, but none are completely correct. Steering a motorcycle is done by a combination of methods. I lean, and it does NOT produce countersteer on it's own. I countersteer. I also shift weight. A habit of mine is to shift my weight so it stays centered (body upright) as I lean the motorcycle. Another thing that may be called ';weight shifting'; but has the effect of ';reverse counter steering'; is when I use my highway pegs. Press right foot down and forward, bike turns right. Left foot, left turn.

Now, to my real point: It is totally irresponsible for any to say ';you countersteer'; and not say anything else! Especially an MSF instructor!!!

There are as many ways to ride a motorcycle as there are to tie your shoes. Be responsible - tie your own shoes.
You can turn the bike by weight shifting.

If you take your hands off the bars and lean the bike to one side, it will turn in that direction but very sluggishly (hoo boy, I am visualising beginning riders doing all these weird experiments, anyways...)

The reason that the bike turns sluggishly is because the weight of the front fork, front wheel etc is ahead of the steering axis. So, as you force the bike to lean left, the inertial weight of the fork initially makes the front forks turn to the right. Then, the bike overcomes the inertial effect and begins turning to the left.

Many people confuse countersteering with counterpressure When you push on the left handgrip, that is all you do. The counterpressure does NOT make the forks turn to the right. Gyroscopic reaction causes the bike to instantly lean to the left.

for those who think I am making things up:

    http://www.howstuffworks.com/gyroscope1.鈥?/a>

This website offers an explanation of how the gyroscope works. There may be too many big words for some of you however.

BTW I started riding motorbikes 32 years ago. My first bike was an Artic Cat (the sled company). What have I got to show for it? A bad back and no future.
    To begin with , ';No';.

Secondly, I note that you knock 20 year riders without giving your riding credentials. Makes me think you don't have many hours behind the bars, or at least, not as many as behind the keyboard.
I totally agree, there is no way to ride my YZF-R1 at any speed above 40km/h without counter steering, and almost did crash a motorbike as a learner by trying to use my weght to turn.

Anybody who thinks that you can turn by leaning is deluding themselves, they are in effect counter steering by putting there weight on the opposite side of the handle bars.
    You read like an idiot.

Counter steering is a PART of steering, it is not All of steering.

Because there are a number of elements , turning of the bars ,leaning, shifting of body weight all happening in varying degrees, at the same time, it is hard to put into words.

Any one that has some experience riding understands at least to some degree how it all works.

Your belief that counter steering is all there is makes you a danger to yourself and others.

Do yourself and those around you a favor and DON'T RIDE TOO CLOSE TO ANYONE!. Jeeze, what a fool you are.

For anyone that has passed the Turlock, California behind-the-wheel-test, how easy is it to pass?

I asked some people and they said it was easy but I just want to know, how easy is it to pass and if there is anything or any specific instructor that I should watch for or isn't going to be at all easy. I already feel that I know all there is to know for passing this test(scanning, backing up, changing lanes, etc.) but I'm really nervous since I failed two times somewhere else. For anyone that has passed the Turlock, California behind-the-wheel-test, how easy is it to pass?
same as anywhere, don't do anything unsafe.

I got a reckless driving ticket b/c i hit a gaurd rail on the interstate. Anyone know the price it may be?

I was going 68 in a 65 and changed lanes to pass a tractor trailer. I got into the rumble strip and freaked out and hit a gaurd rail. I have only had my license for 3 months or so. I have also gotten a lawyer. How much may it cost?I got a reckless driving ticket b/c i hit a gaurd rail on the interstate. Anyone know the price it may be?
Repairs to guardrail, fines, lawyer's fees, insurance rate ...... About $5,000

Would you pay this ticket or go to court?

Hi, I was driving on the highway and needed to switch lanes. There was a car about 5 ft. behind me in the other lane. I turned on my turn signal and right away the car slowed down to let me in. I switched lanes and got pulled over. The cop told me I had only let my turn signal blink 2 times so he had to give me a ticket. Is there a law about how many times your turn signal must blink before changing lanes? I don't understand what law I broke.

    The ticket says:

Other: Turning movements and required signals.

Def. made land change merging to left lane forcing vehicle in that lane to yield. (only 2 blinks of turn signal)

So the ticket is for not using a turn signal yet the police officer wrote down that I did infact use my turn signal but only let it blink twice. I also didn't force the other car to yield, they were just being a nice diver (very hard to come by) and they were letting me in... This is the first ticket I have ever gotten. what would you do?Would you pay this ticket or go to court?
It sounds like you have a good case, although I don't think the ticket is for not using a signal, it's for ';unsafe turning movement'; (lane change is considered a turning movement). It'll be your word against the officer and he probably didn't realize that the other driver slowed to let you in. From his view it may have indeed appeared that she 'had' to yield to your lane change. The law doesn't address the number of blinks that are required, but it can be a factor in determining whether the lane change is safe and gives other drivers enough time to react.

That said, fighting the ticket may require two appearances (the first to plead not guilty and the second for trial). Each will be at least a half a day, with trial more likely requiring a full day. If you lose, you'll pay the fine plus court costs, but if you win you'll pay nothing.

If you fight it, you get to ask the cop questions. You should ask him what he observed that caused him to believe the other car was ';forced'; to yield. Did he see brake lights? He may not recall, which will be good for you. When you testify, do so calmly and unemotionally. You need to focus on what you observed and why you began your lane change when you did, i.e. you observed the other car slow to let you in.

Good luck.Would you pay this ticket or go to court?
The DMV handbook, at highway speeds it best to signal for at least 5 second BEFORE the turn point (your decision)(it's only advice). The law in the code book says ';for a minimum of 100 feet';. Thus at slow speeds it's ridiculous a tad. And at high speeds it not enough. It's a forewarning only.

    Go to court.
I'd fight it, that is just stupid. As long as you signaled and changed lanes safely, a judge will dismiss this ticket.
Yeah, I'd definately go to court on that one.
since it is your first ticket...go to court...hopefully the police officer will not show up..and you can plead your case...maybe get it dropped.

    good luck
Take it to court, the cop may or may not arrive. If he doesn't the ticket should get thrown out. IF he does explain that the car had yielded and you were checking your mirrors and blind spot to make sure that the car had slowed down for you to get in. The worst that can happen is you will have to pay the ticket.
Go to court. Most likely the traffic judge will side with the officer, but he will most likely give you the opportunity to take the offensive driving class which will keep the ticket off your insurance.
GO TO COURT!!!!! DO IT!! YOU WON'T!!
I would go to court but take all you information with you regarding the signaling laws. In most states when you signal which rarely happens this day and age, the other driver must have time to react to your signal. I think a good argument would be how did the cop know your signal only blinked twice was he the one behind you? I would fight this one.
Definitely go to court, (what city , state), laws mite be different, but i wouldn't think so with that, usually if the officer does not show (more than likely too busy to show for all tickets given out) it gets thrown out or brought down to a lesser charge. Yes definitely go to court, the first time they will ask if you are guilty or not, and they always say to say not, then you are given a court date to plea your case, and then probably be thrown out. Best of luck to you.
Pay the fine. This could have been reckless operation of a motor vehicle. First a turn signal does not give you the right of way when changing lanes it is an indication of your intent. It also appears that you were not paying attention to your driving by switching lanes with a car so close. You invaded their space and their right of way. You could have caused a big pileup. You should have been in the correct lane at the time or wait until the car passed.
IF you are telling the truth, the i would say fight it.

Question about car pulled over by cops?

How do you pull over your car if you are in the left most lane on the freeway? do you just stop or do you change lanes to the right most lane? what about if you are in the right lane? do u need to pull over to the right?Question about car pulled over by cops?
The law requires you to pull over as far to the right as possible as soon as it is safe for you to do so. If you are in the left lane in heavy traffic, it should clear quickly after the officer turns his lights on. In addition, it makes getting out into traffic after the stop difficult, as you are in the ';fast lane';.

Some officers in my area do not mind if you pull to the left, as long as you can get completely out of the lane of travel. This allows the officer to approach you on the opposite side of traffic. I would not suggest you do it unless you can convince the officer pulling to the right was not practical.Question about car pulled over by cops?
You are required to pull to the right as soon as it is safe to do so.

    ALWAYS to the right.
Generally, Law Enforcement expects you to pull to the right regardless of the lane you are in.

Remember - SAFETY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE RULES. When you are signaled to yield, do so in the safest manner possible.

How come you don't need to retake your driver's test at 70?

These people can't drive. Not ALL of them, but most. They are straddling 2 lines in the highway, not looking when changing lanes, no blinkers. I think it's terrible! How come you need a license at 16 but not 70?How come you don't need to retake your driver's test at 70?
I agree with you about the age limit but not about how we cannot drive, at 70 we have been driving for 55 years %26amp; are still alive so please do not say we cannot drive! At least we do not speed %26amp; drive recklessly like some people I could mention. ha haHow come you don't need to retake your driver's test at 70?
well thats true but i also see people from their teens all the way to their 40s and 50s do the same things so maybe they should make everybody do a driving test every time we go in and get the license renewed, plus think about it, what good is having an expiration date on a license when all you do is turn it in then pay the fee and get it remade, thats not showing you can still drive

and you ask why you need a license at 16? i really hope you mean why do you need to take a driving test at 16 and not 70, but to answer that its to see if you can actually drive, your just learning, if they didn't do testing to see if you can drive it would be A LOT more accidents out there

  • When someone ';cuts you off'; on the road, what does that expression mean?

I don't drive, so I'm not clear on this. How exactly does someone ';cut you off?'; They cut you off from what? Does it mean they changed lanes at the last minute and pulled into your lane very close to and in front of you? Does it mean something else? I never could understand this phrase.

Anyone? When someone ';cuts you off'; on the road, what does that expression mean?
They 'cut you off' from accessing the road!

They cut right in front of you
    Very good genius.
They zip around and drive right in front of you.
When they pull in front of you, or do something that would make you slam on your brakes to avoid hitting them.
It means that they cut into traffic right in front of you, causing you to have to slow down to avoid hitting them.
It means that they were totally ignorant and have no respect for anyone else on the road. Sometimes they come into your lane and leave you nowhere to go in your lane and you either have to stop or run off the road.
It means that somebody cuts off a part of your car like a bumper or side mirror with their vehicle. It is a very malicious act and should only be done by stunt drivers.
They drive in front of you, kinda like cutting in front of a line type of sort.
Kind of like ';cutting in line'; for you walkers.

basically, they are swirving in front of you or pulling out in your path.
Just learn to make a fist, send your middle finger straight up in the air, and stick you hand out your window in clear view so the guy that cut you off can see it in their rear view mirror.
    You answered your question correctly
It means that they cut your lane and suddenly popped in from of you, making you to have to slow down or change your lane.
it means they are insensitive jerks
this ';cutting off occurs when a car comes from behind you in a parrallel lane and moves in front of you causing you to slow down in order to avoid a crash
the driver suddenly takes your lane and appear in front of you. The act will force you to either step on the break and/or instinctively raise your foot to prepare to press the brake pedal.
What it means is that you are a sane driver in the right lane driving a normal acceptable speed to where there are a few crazy drivers going about 80mph and they come up behind you really mad like and go around you and pull in front of you within inches of your bumper. Sometimes, they do this to get off of the right exit on the highway, sometimes, just somebody who is drunk, or somebody who is too tired and not thinking. Alot of people do this because they are just plain inconsiderate, not thinking of safety and not thinking about getting a ticket. Sometimes, they just have road rage and are mad at everybody.
Yes, it means someone changes lanes suddenly right in front of you, no warning, very dangerous maneuver allowing little time for you to brake, typically makes even the most even tempered person suddenly and extremely po'd!
I've been driving for the past 20 years of my life, and have experienced being 'cut off' in traffic many, MANY times. If you have yet to experience it... then good for you!! When you do, you'll know it!!! Your blood will boil, your heart rate will race, you'll be angry for no good reason other than the fact that someone else is not being courteous to other drivers. But the weird part is that you end up driving equally bad just to try and 'teach' the other driver a lesson... for what good reason I don't know, because it NEVER works!!!
When it comes to driving, you are correct in your definition. It could also mean that you sever emotional ties with someone and no longer talk to them. In another, it could also mean no longer giving someone money; as in a parent no longer paying for an older child's items. The phrase used this way is usually used to describe a situation after an argument or disagreement.
While passing, they cut into the lane you are driving too soon. Sometimes causing you to brake or slow down.

Pull out in front of you, again causing you to slow down or brake.

Some people's reaction to this activity is to ';flip them off. Now, in an effort to save you ten points asking what that means, it is when you raise your fist into the air with only the middle (long man) finger protruding from the fist. This gesture is normally not a good thing and should be used w/caution.

How do I contest a wrongful turn traffic ticket?

There were 2 additional cars in front of me in the lane where we were making a left. When the green arrow came on, we all turned exept the car in front of me made a much sharper turn, indended to go in to the left lane, ended up cutting through it, went into the center lane %26amp; cut right away into the far right lane. But,my turn was much wider %26amp; I went straight into the center lane, placed my blinker %26amp; changed into the right. Immediately the cop on the side of the road stopped both of us but the cop let the car in front of me go and stopped me only %26amp; gave me a ticket. The cop told me the reason why he didn't stop the other car was because it SEEMED that she was going to go straight into the left lane but changed lanes right after %26amp; wasn't very sure if she had made a violation, however he stopped me because my turn was much wider %26amp; claimed I went all the way to the right. My question is, would I be able to contest the ticket? Is it possible to show that the cop made a mistake or assumption? How do I contest a wrongful turn traffic ticket?
No its not worth it, suck it up and take your ticket. That someone else did something wrong is not an excuse for you. I was going to court once to protest a ticket because everyone else was speeding too but thank God I was not the first case so I got to listen to how stupid this inability to admit fault sounds in real life. There, someone asked the Judge to ask the officer why he did not stop the other cars and give them tickets and the judge said do you want me to do that. Yes, its my right some idiot said. And the judge asked the police to fess up to his incompetence and the cops just said he can only stop one car at a time even if more are breaking the law. I realized how stupid the whinning sounded. Pleaded guilty, paid my fine, thanked everyone and walked out without making for whiny fool out of myself. How do I contest a wrongful turn traffic ticket?
You have to go to court and protest it. Many times the officer doesn't show and they will dismiss the ticket.
Both kevin and tom have points you can go in and plead not gulity it will likely be set for trail on another day that means instead of one day of missed work itll be two , most of the time the police officer WILL show up due to the fact if they dont internal affairs will bring them in to answer to why they werent in court and police officers are on overtime when they come to court and that in some areas is double the usual salary and who wouldnt show up for double your hourly rate for a min ium of 4 hours
SHOW UP IN COURT , TRY AND DRAW A MAP AND DESCRIBE THINGS, BRING ANY WITNESSES
IF you are not from another state, you have a very good chance in having it cleared or dropped before the court date. Keep a good attitude about you. That is right, the policeman may not show. You would then get off. The same is true if they cannot show proof of you speeding.
You are always able to contest a Traffic ticket and I highly recommend you do because you maybe facing demerit points if you don't. You can check http://www.trafficticketsolutions.ca/demeritpoints.php to determine how many demerit points you face if convicted depending on your exact charge. Next thing I suggest you do is order the officers Discloser. This is the officers’ notes they took on the ticket. Then I suggest you read up on the specific charge in the traffic act and see if there are any discrepancies between the two. Officers don't spend a great deal of time learning the traffic act and are often mistaken on what the law really says! IE the “3 second rule” at a stop sign. The law actually states that you must stop, but doesn't say anything about how long. This is one of many ways you can trip up officers in court and win your case! Good luck!

Why do so few drivers use turn signals?

Isn't it as courtesy to other drivers to let them know that you'll be turning or changing lanes?

Don't you have to prove that you know how to use turn signals or hand signals when taking the driving test for a license? Why do so few drivers use turn signals?
According to Response Insurance, a national car insurer, 42% of those drivers say they don’t have enough time, 23% admit they are just plain “lazy,” 17% don’t signal because when they do, they forget to turn it off, 12% admit they are changing lanes too frequently to bother, 11% say it is not important, 8% say they don’t signal because other drivers don’t, and perhaps most disturbing 7% say forgoing the signal “adds excitement to driving.”

The Company identified several driver-types when it comes to ignoring turn signals – Impulsive, Lazy, Forgetful, Swervers, Ostriches, Followers, and the Dare Devils.

The bottom line is that most drivers are failing to see the importance of using their turn signals.........Why do so few drivers use turn signals?
    Bad habit, basically.

People forget to do it all the time....and then they simply don't do it any of the time.

Most people also don't remember how to properly parallel park. Not quite the same thing, but same concept. Don't do something often enough, and you just get used to not doing it.
It's not just courtesy, it's the law. You are supposed to give a signal or you can get a ticket for ';failure to signal.'; I hate it when people don't give a signal and just slow way down then turn. Drives me crazy.
true you do have too when testing true you should used them everytime you turn i try my self to i always do when turning into a drive or parking lot where i have to slow to a stop never in a turn lane and most of time when i switch lanes just to let others know im coming over not so much if theirs no one there or if they far away but your right many dont used them at all .. they wil get their meaning one day th e hard way
Because people are not thinking about there job driving most people are lazy and dont think about there are in a car/ truck
Imo some people are too distracted with other things and or forget to use them.
People tend to drive as if they are in their own little world and nothing outside their car effects them. It's the same reason you see so many people sitting in their car digging for gold or jamming out to a song singing at the top of their lungs. They would be too embarrassed to do this in public but they'll sit in their car and do it for the whole world to see.

It's a pretty dangerous perception to have because it's the people who aren't paying attention to the what's going on outside their car who are going to cause an accident.
Actually, in Michigan, you can get a ticket for not using your turn signal. But people are just lazy...including the police, for not enforcing the law, by not giving these lazy people a ticket.
They don't put signal lights on all vehicles. Didn't you know that? Seriously though, I think people just assume you know which way they are going. I also think some people do it just to tick off the other drivers.
Because they're idiotic drivers who shouldn't be allowed on the road. What's more, you know full well that if you cut them up in any way (because they hadn't indicated) they will blame you.
Because they are to stupid to figure out how they work.

How do I defeat an unjust ticket for changing lanes without signaling?

    I'm in Tennessee.

I was given a ticket by a cop who clearly wanted only to write a ticket. A van pulled in front of me and for a mile he was speeding up, slowing down, slamming the brakes, and swerving OFF THE ROAD then jerking back on. I didn't feel safe behind this driver so I waited until it was safe to do so and was in the passing zone and went around him. It was heading into a small speed trap town, and I never went over the speed limit of 35. An unmarked car ( it was dark, I didn't know it was a cop ) rammed behind me - rammed, as in, his push bumper touched my bumper. When I didn't speed up he put his lights on. I pulled over. He asked for my license and reg. so I gave him my license and I said the registration is in the glove box and when I went to reach for it he said, ';that's OK, don't worry about it,'; and went back to his tyranny mobile. He came back and said I was speeding, I told him I wasn't speeding; he told me I was weaving, I told him I wasn't weaving I was passing a possibly drunk driver. He told me I didn't have my turn signal on. I said I don't remember. He wrote down that I passed without signaling and I said, ';....for not using a turn signal?'; He gave me attitude and threatened to write me up for another 100 for not having my registration. I told him I had it but it was in the glove box. He said whatever, you can contest it in court Febuary 15th, then threatened me he'd write me up if I gave him any, ';lip.'; I said whatever. This little piggy walked all the way back to his car.

The ticket is for 95 dollars and he lied to me about the court date - I checked the print and it said March 15th. Maybe he made a mistake, but he was clearly just trying to write me for something. He couldn't drum up a speeding or reckless charge and purposefully didn't take my registration so he could try to threaten me with it. I ain't standing for this.

I just want to know do I have a chance to win? Has anybody beat a b.s. charge before? What defense did you use? Can I sue? I don't want to win, I just want to cause trouble for them for their mafioso type highway robbery tactics.

Please, no opie griffith, ';you should just bow to the officer,'; crap. They're wrong, I'm right, I ain't letting them steal my hard-earned money. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. In the words of GG Allin: F*** the law.How do I defeat an unjust ticket for changing lanes without signaling?
Chalk this up as a leaning experience. The date on the ticket is what you should rely on, not what the PO says. I don’t know if this falls into the same category, but remember that the police can legally lie to you to get you to admit guilt, which I think is a good thing for many crimes.

If you have a clear driving record, take it to court. If you get a fair judge who believes your story, you might have a chance. But the part about him touching your bumper sounds a little fishy. Even if it’s true they won’t believe you. And don’t cite “GG Allin: F*** the law”; that’s a sure way to get lose your case. Civility goes a long way.

And no, you can’t sue the officer or police department for this.

“tyranny mobile” Love it! I fully support the fair PO’s, but this certainly applies to a few of them. How do I defeat an unjust ticket for changing lanes without signaling?
It sounds like you are a bitter little man who can't admit when he is wrong.

What do they mean by passing cars?

Alright ya fu*kin douchebags, nice with the condescending questions. trying to be smartasses huh ya? dont fu%$in bother answering you losers. Although I do thank the people who tried answering without a demeaning tone.

Now lemme revise my question, and show you why I asked:

    http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/dmanual/cha...

and in that website go down where it says

    ';Single broken line: You may pass other vehicles or change lanes if you can do so safely and not interfere with traffic.';

the picture next to it has single broken lines that are yellow.

    now this also said:

    ';Lines separating traffic moving in opposite directions are yellow.';

now how the fu*k are you supposed to fu#*in ';PASS'; other cars on a two way road?

that's why I asked this question you fu*#in c*nts. What do they mean by passing cars?
Hey man its pretty simple you can pass if there are no lines, you can pass when there is a broken line, you can pass when you have a broken line on your side and a solid on the other, you can't pass if you have 2 solid lines.A solid line on your side means no passing.Always pass with caution. What do they mean by passing cars?
This is for when you are stuck behind a slow moving person on a two way two lane road. you can swing out into the oncoming traffic lane (after checking that no one is coming) and pass the slow person.
when only a dotted line is painted down the center of the road you may pull out and pass if conditions are safe to do so.

If there is a dotted line and a solid line beside it but the solid line is in the opposing line you may still pass if conditions are safe.

If the solid line is on your side of the dotted line then you are not allowed to pass.

If you have 2 solid lines neither side is allowed to pass. And in most cases if there are no center lines at all then no passing is allowed. Hope this helps.

  • How many cars have to pass you on the right?

While your doing 55 MPH in the 70 MPH passing lane on the way to work, before you decide to change lanes?

To make matters worse, when real drivers try to pass on the right because of your ignorance, don't speed up to 62 MPH to prevent us from passing. Slow down even more so the other 30 cars behind you can do the same.

Obscene gestures: our way of saying ';Thank you, your license should be REVOKED!';How many cars have to pass you on the right?
I have a rule...if three cars pass you on the right...get overHow many cars have to pass you on the right?

Though I agree that people need to be in the correct lane, I do not agree that hand gestures and words is the correct way to handle things. It just gets your blood pressure up and shows that you are an aggressive driver.

Just calm down and leave a little earlier. Your anger will get you into trouble someday.
yeah ok next time i will try it
I hate people who do that. Sometimes I wish I could just hit their car with mine and knock them off the road.
normally 谋m do谋ng about 85-90 谋n my m谋tzy evo, so not many cars pass me.
    Drivers like that make me want to SCREAM....';For the love of god get out of the fast lane....';
LOL I am thinking that everyone's liscense should be REVOKED when they turn 60 anyway

How do i make a lane change with fast traffic?

lets say i am in a fast lane and want to merge into the other lane but that lane is full of cars speeding ahead how would i merge the car into that lane without going to far ahead so i couldnt make the mergeHow do i make a lane change with fast traffic?
put your turn signal on, match the speed of the cars in that lane, and move soon as you get an openingHow do i make a lane change with fast traffic?
Turn your signal on, slow down a little bit so people know you are looking and trying to switch lanes. Then if you find a gap that is sufficient, go for it, but don't be too agressive
You always have to move with the flow of traffic as to not cause an accident. You don't go too slow and you don't go too fast. Always move with the flow of traffic. If you are in the highway, put your blinker on ahead of time and you must wait for an opening. Stay alert and once you realize someone is being polite, stay with the flow of traffic and merge. If you are on the highway, there is little chance someone will be polite and realize you need to take your exit. Therefore, I recommend you stay on the lane in which the exit lies so as not to worry about merging and missing your exit!
Get a Hummer H1 and run everyone else off the road, that would be fun.

But seriously, just signal that you are merging, and if people are still making no effort to let you merge move over just a bit, usually I find that people are just not paying attention and will only allow you to merge if they actually see you moving over.

Can I throw out a traffic ticket if the officer misspelled my last name?

So I got a traffic ticket for merging into a transfer lane when the white line went solid. (Basically a last minute decision on which direction to go)

I was on HWY 400 south merging onto 401 westbound and I changed lanes at the last minute. The cop wrote me up a $110.00 ticket, but forgot a letter in my last name.

Can I just ignore the ticket, or how do I get it thrown out?

Thanks in advance. Can I throw out a traffic ticket if the officer misspelled my last name?
    No.

The Officer has the right to amend the ticket and correct the error.

If you ignore the ticket, the court will issue a warrant for your arrest and the fine will be increased by a very large amount. Can I throw out a traffic ticket if the officer misspelled my last name?
You can ignore it if you want, however the court will not. Additionally a clerical error is not sufficient to get a ticket dismissed.
no because your id numbers are on the ticket as your drivers permit is, , just like the zip code for usa mail, numbers count not names//
If the ticket includes your drivers license number or the tag number of your car then you will be paying the ticket.
The misspelled name won't matter. The cop no doubt put your address, DOB, license number, and tag number on the ticket. Not much doubt of your identity there. If you signed the ticket, you promised to appear in court, or perhaps pay the face value. If you do neither, a warrant will be issued, so you can't ignore it.

If you want to appear in court over it, and plead to the judge that you were watching traffic to be sure a lane change was safe and didn't know the line had become solid, you just might get off.
That idiot left a letter out of your last name?

    An entire letter?

Throw that ticket out and don't look back. He's darn lucky you're not suing him for the expense of asking this question here on Yahoo.
You can ignore it but the courts wont, Pay up.

How do you drive on freeway?

I have only 6hours of driving experience.

I think I'm fast learner and I think my driving is pretty much defensive.

Because my church is far away, i have to use freeway to get there from my home.

I don't have my license yet, i have only provisional instruction permit. (turning 17 years old this november).

My instructor says it is illegal to drive on freeway when you have provisional permit, but i don't believe him

Is it true that you can't drive on freeway if you got permit?

and if I can drive on freeway, how do you merge into traffic on the freeway and change lanes? How do you drive on freeway?
Oh my goodness..... please.... stay off the road. Learn how to drive first before you hit the freeway. How do you drive on freeway?
if you go slow don't get in the left lane you will get ran over buy the people that go fast oh and don't talk on the phone when you are in the left lane!~!~!~!~!~!~
drive in early mornings and late afternoons to practice.. but keep with the flo of traffic and merge when there is room to do so... stay on teh defensive, but make sure you practice alot!!!
    fast!!!!! fast!!!!!! fast!!!!!!
If you don't believe your teacher call the state patrol. sometimes you have to take the freeway and i think busy streets are far worse for a young driver. too many things to look out for. anyhow... merge at freeway speed. watch the lane changes cause thats were you're gonna get into trouble. You'll have to once in awhile. check your mirrors and LOOK before you pull out of your lane. Do you have someone who will go with you a time or two? that would be nice.
If your instructor says it's illegal for you to drive on the freeway, believe it! Teaching you the skills needed for merging and changing lanes on the freeway is the instructor's job, when it is legal for him to do so, and when he judges you are ready to learn.

Until then, demonstrate what a fast learner you are, by getting out a map, and figuring how to get where you need to go, without getting on a freeway.
REALLY FAST! That's what I say, its only illegal if you get caught! How you gonna learn if you don't do it! Just don't think about the beginning of Final Destination 2 while you're doing it!

How can you fix a wheel that's bent into the wheel well?

My little brother was driving us home on the freeway and some idiot changed lanes into ours, forcing us to swerve into the center divide curb. We hit the curb sideways and it pushed the front wheel inward and it's kinda tilted as well. Is this something a wheel alignment can fix? The car handled very wobbly after. How can you fix a wheel that's bent into the wheel well?
i own a repair shop, and id say it bent the bottom a-frame on it ,this one will have to be taken to a shop for repair, there's nothing you can do for it,it may also have bent a tie rod end also,id say the damage is going to be more than your expecting it to be on this one ,but have it checked from what you have said it sounds like it has messed a few things up in it pretty bad, good luck,i hope this help,s.How can you fix a wheel that's bent into the wheel well?
A wheel alignment may work but it sounds like there could be more wrong. I am going to take a guess that you are going to need a new rim and possibley a new tire. You might even need new ball joints, tie rod end ( depending on if it is a front wheel drive) and a CV joint. And possible more depending on how hard you hit the curb. I would definitley get it looked at by a professional to get the exact amount of damage done.
an alignment might fix it, if you are lucky. After what happened, you could have anything from a bent rim to a bent/broken axle. Best bet is to take a soon as you can to a mechanic. Don't drive the car in that condition. A bent or broken linkage is likely and you don't want the entire wheel falling off when you are driving down the highway (I've seen it happen). Good luck.

Normally ';moving violations'; do carry points as part of the penalty. It should tell you the cost on the ticket - varies by locality.

Call the number on the ticket, they should be able to answer all your questions.

What is so smart about the smart car?

Its either made by Chrysler or Mercedes Benz but they're tiny little cars made out of plastic I think. Somebody please tell me what is so smart about a car that only gets 40 mpg (crap for how small it is). Acclerates like crap, would probably kill you instantly if you were in a wreck, (what is their to protect you?). Is highly likely to get run over by a car changing lanes. And has no room for more than two passengers or any groceries. I keep seeing one of these things putting up and down my street, what the heck is so intelligent about it?What is so smart about the smart car?
To tell you the truth, I can't figure ANYTHING to be so ';Smart'; about it either. May I also add the PRICE to the equation? Since it's obvious intent through its design is ECONOMY, I can think of LOTS of cars that are much less expensive. Not to mention its IMPRACTICALITY, due to having differently sized wheels both front and rear make tire rotations impossible when servicing, as well as the inconvience of having to go hunting for a fueling station that sells DIESEL, to fuel its three cylinders of turbodiesel power. My personal favourite vehicle is a Ford Excursion, which would CRUSH one of those in an instant!!! With all that said, I can't think of anything so ';Smart'; about it myself. What is so smart about the smart car?
Ford Girl, I bet you feel ';smart'; NOW paying $100/week to fill up your excursion that gets 14 mpg, i bet you have nightmares everytime you go to the gas station, hahahahahahaha.

    tells you where to go
Is smart, because makes Chrysler Daimler lots of f@#$%g money, out of dumb people that pays the ridiculous prices they sell it for.
The name is an acronym. Swatch Mercedes ART.

You also have to realize that Smarts are designed for driving circumstances far different than the majority of American drivers encounter. I think the car was a pretty good match for European urban driving, but I can't fathom why anyone thought it would be a good idea to import it to the US.

To be fair, I seem to remember that Smarts have a pretty robust safety frame made of steel or aluminum alloy to meet minimum crash requirements.

And are you saying that all small cars are necessarily a bad idea since you run the risk of getting run over?

Granted, there are a dozen better choices in the subcompact segment.
They do fairly well in crash testing, they use the crumple zone of the cars that hit them to dissipate energy. And you can park it anywhere (not really a problem in America).

How';s Your Driving , Do you show Common Courtesy ?

Blocking the intersection when you can't go forward, speeding-up when the other driver wants to pass, changing lanes without signalling

these are just a few of the peeves I have with the way you driveHow';s Your Driving , Do you show Common Courtesy ?
People make mistakes.Yes,even you and I.

And yeah I know sometimes it seems like

everyone else on the road wants to play

    Grand Theft Auto.

Anyway, when the going gets tough I crank up

the radio and chill out.Life's to short for that

';road rage';crap. How';s Your Driving , Do you show Common Courtesy ?
i hate when people are retard drivers

after i pass i am always sure to give them the ';california greeting'; of the middle finger
i drive fast all the time..city i go up to 10 over. highway, i go 75mph

only thing i do when i drive is if someones on my a$$ and then changes lane, most likely is ganna cut me off, so i speed up as well and then they end up behind me again so then i slow down LOL
I am a defensive driver and i look out for all those people makeing the wrong moves in order to prevent accidents.

I have driven a tractor trailer for over one million accident free miles.
What do you mean ';you';? WHO the hell is you that you are referring to?

I bet you are the very person that does all of that.
I try to show common courtesy, but I won't go out of my way. For example, if a car in another lane ahead puts on a turn signal to move into my lane, I'll generally let them in if it doesn't disrupt my speed that much. I won't speed up to not let them in. But if a car is going really slower then I am or is stopped in another lane with a turn signal on, I won't stop in my lane or really slow down to let them in. I only let in cars if their speed is close to my speed or of course to avoid an accident if someone forces their way in my lane.

I don't speed up when someone is passing me. But if someone passes me on the interstate and gets back in the right lane in front of me without giving me any space and doesn't go faster than me (and especially goes slower then me), I'll pass them back 2 seconds later if my exit isn't coming up. I see cars pass each other on the interstate all the time, it's like playing tag. In my opinion, if someone isn't going to go faster than me, then there's no reason to pass me. But I wouldn't cut off another car when I'm in a rush. It's important to have patient and not do an aggressive or dangerous move when you're running late. That's probably the problem, everybody is running behind and drive without due care for other drivers on the road.
    I always use common courtesy

    take care

    dave
ima gd driver ima very nice and i raly make a mistake.
Those are what I like to call Selfish Drivers. People who believe their standard of driving is correct and fails to think about the other people on the road. Because I watch people when they drive around me I can predict with 95% certainty what someone is going to do and then I can avoid them.

    Scared of merging lanes. help?

as a teenager, i'm really excited that i now have my license, but there's one problem. I am TERRIFIED of merging lanes and I have to merge into a lane to get to school in the mornings. I know that I'm allowed to wait before I merge to make sure the lane next to me is clear (i'm talking about just a major road, not the interstate), but the cars move so fast i'm afraid i'm going to crash and cause a 1856378568 car collision and i'm afraid cars behind me will get mad and start honking. i check over my shoulder to see if it's safe but i have little confidence in merging. what can i do to make it in safely and is it ok to wait as long as i need to before i merge in?

also, with changing lanes, if there are a lot of cars in the lane next to me and i need to get in that lane, what if the cars won't open up space for me and i can't get in? i know you're not supposed to stop or slow down while you're changing lanes but i don't understand how that's possible if the cars won't leave you enough room fast enough, cause what if you keep at the same speed but then miss the opening? help?Scared of merging lanes. help?
The slower you go, the more difficulty you will have. Try to accelerate so that you are slightly faster than the traffic you want to merge with, because it's easier to slow down to merge than trying to accelerate at the last minute.

I've been driving for 25 years and merging into fast, heavy traffic still makes me nervous.Scared of merging lanes. help?
well, you just have to practice at it, the better you get at it the faster you overcome your fears

people are usually a**holes when they're driving, you have to become one too, that's the only way to drive here in LA
if you do not know this stuff you should not be allowed to drive at all....get over it or you will never have a life sorry to say.
While speeding up, find a reasonable gap, and move your car into the other lane. As long as the car in that lane sees you coming in, they are going to have to let you in unless they want a accident. Also, look at your mirror but also glance to check that there isn't a car isn't right next to you.
You were supposed to learn how to do things like this while you had a PERMIT. That's the whole point....cause now you're just a hazard on the road.

The trick is to fit in to the flow. That means that you need to get up to the speed of the flow, make sure no one else in the 3rd lane over (if there is one) is trying to go for your spot, and make sure the person in the lane you want to get in front of isn't accelerating (going faster than the flow). Turn on your turn signal well in advance so people have a chance to let you in. Check your shoulder and smoothly drift over into the lane.

The only time you should EVER stop is if it's bumper to bumper traffic and there's no gaps for you to fit in. Realize that the person behind you doesn't want to smash his car (usually) any more than you do.

Oh last tip, if all else fails, it's very common for there to just be little bursts of cars...meaning if you slow down a bit from the flow, all the cars will go in front of you leaving a huge amount of room and practically no one behind you....common in cities with a lot of stop lights.

  • Does revving the engine in idle and pounding the break and gas wear the engine prematurely?

Ok, my husband and I are having this argument. He revs the engine so much that I can hear it from inside. He basically drives like a maniac, changing lanes excessively to get around traffic, and he is hard on the gas and break pedals. I told him these things are hard on the engine, he doesnt need to rev so hard to warm up the car, and we really arent in so much of a hurry that he would need to drive how he does. I think he is harming the engine faster than if he were easier on the car. He thinks I'm wrong. Who is correct?

Thanks!Does revving the engine in idle and pounding the break and gas wear the engine prematurely?
    As an ASP certified mechanic

I can tell you that if he's doing

    just what you've stated, he's

    wearing many things out much

    quicker than they would under

    normal wear.

First off, If the brakes are being

    pounded (whether they're anti-lock

or not) the shoes and pads will

need to be replaced twice as often.

In turn, the rotors will also need to

be turned down (trued) or replaced

    long before they should be.

Weaving in and out of traffic wears the

tires much faster and more unevenly.

That is why so many people see the

tread sides worn more than the apex of

the tire. They too will need to be replaced

    twice as often.

I take it you live in a cold climate.

Revving the engine in park is o.k. as long

as it's steady and just above idle. Revving

the engine hard doesn't warm the car up

faster it simply thins the oil out faster, thus

it needing to be changed or replenished

more often. Oil that thins doesn't lubricate

as well hence the quicker deterioration of

internal parts. Causing slivers of metal to

come loose but not get filtered out.

If this car is a high performance car, than

even though the above things still aren't

good, it will take longer for parts to wear.

However, you usually can't convince any

man of this, that's why I'm in business and

can charge the prices I do.

I feel for you, I do.Does revving the engine in idle and pounding the break and gas wear the engine prematurely?
your husband is a idiot - you should think about trading him in for a new one - sorry
It really depends on what kind of car you have, a sports car is made for such things and shouldn't be driven any other way, it's just wrong. My little 4 cylinder Toyota Corolla on the other hand isn't really made for that and it will wear the engine down faster. I wouldn't really worry about it though, out of all of the things to go out on a car the engine is one of the last, so, again I wouldn't really worry. Good Luck.
Revving the engine to warm it up can wear it out much faster than if you drive it slowly for the first few minutes. But it sounds like your husband wouldn't have the patience for that.
I don't think a hundred ';wearing the engine out replies'; in here will make him change his ways, hes happy, bur he does sound a danger on the road, maybe tell him you accept the over revving but please be safe on the road, The engine will probably be ok but hes drinking petrol up by the gallon
i own a shop, and its hard on any engine, even a engine built for racing was meant to be under a strain,,with out having it under a strain its hard on the engine to be done like this,,i get a lot of repair work because of this,,tell him to get his check book ready,,because some day he,ll find this out the hard way,,good luck hope this help,s.,have a good x-mas.
It would damage the vehicle, but I would be worried more of what could happen with his driving, take for example this web site, just click on it.

    http://www.car-accidents.com/pages/accid
yes it doesnt matter what kind of car you have its hard on it to do those things its hard on the lifters, push rods, pistons, cam and the cam shaft the tranny so yeah it hard on the engine so if i was u i would take that other guys advice and trade in your husband for a new one
Let your husband know I'm happy not to be buying his gasoline or autoparts.

How do you calm yourself when you get road rage?

Sometimes I get so mad when I'm driving! I know it is stupid and I need to just ignore it or chill out.

Here is what pushes me over: tailgating me, not letting me into the lane when I am signalling and being patient, speeding up to stop me from changing lanes, cutting me off just to drive 10 km below the speed limit, etc.

How do you cope when another driver is just MAKING YOU SO MAD? I need non-confrontational and non-violent solutions only, please! How do you calm yourself when you get road rage?
Put your favorite song on the radio. Think of something that makes you laugh. Pray. Start singing at the top of your lungs instead of yelling. Tell yourself that time in the car is to relax and don't be in a hurry. Reward yourself when you get home if you didn't get mad the whole way there.

Good luck. How do you calm yourself when you get road rage?
I pretend the other person made a mistake and I think of all the other times I cut people off by accident. Hope that helps.
take a hit, and chill out.
It's tough. sadly there is no law against being an inconsiderate, pig headed, ill mannered and jackass of a driver.

My pet peeve is pretty much the same as yours, zooming out from a side street and when the limit is 45mph they immediately slow down to 30 and have a leisurely drive. usually in front of you for the next 35 miles too.

there isn't much you can do excpet consider them dips and always remember....everyone on the road is an idiot except you.
I hit my head against the steering wheel, I curse out loud (not so much now with kids in the car). I know you asked for non-violent or confrontational, but really, unless you can fit a set of drums or a punching bag in your car and use those tools when aggravation reaches its peak, that will be a very hard thing to do. You don't need to curse AT the person, just say the word out loud to yourself in the car. It works for me. Just do not flip the bird, I've heard of people getting shot at because of that. Good luck!
I have found just saying a quick prayer helps me to calm down alot. Just to maintain self control and to keep myself from cursing that person out. Try it, it really helps
I have driven an eighteen wheeler for a year at 21, and drove hot shot, which means driving from my state to others with things under 1,000 lbs. in the back, and driven for 30 plus years. My answer is, realize where other people are coming from. Think of the people you see in department stores and the grocery store, how they drive their buggy's and you'll see, some think of others and some think they are the only ones on the planet. Some are in the best of cars and trucks, some are in what they only hope get them where they are going. Plus the shuffle of people that leave late and the people that have kids in the cars, the ones that now talk on the phone and eat, smoke, etc...those are your groups you get with on the road. If you leave early for your destination and give your self plenty of time to get there you still have these people that don't care if they create problems. If you go to a driving class, I think they show films of wrecks, you'll be reminded how precious life really is and know, you are in a machine that can kill quickly or tear your life apart. don't be responsible for a child's death or yours.....talk your self down...you can do it......you'll see....good luck...

In Florida, How much (if any) will my auto insurance rate increase with 3 points on my license?

I got a ticket for improperly changing lanes and I'm electing not to go to traffic school (since I only have one more chance for traffic school based on two times/year) for such a minor offense. Would it make sense to skip 8hr school ($70.00) or would I end up paying more in the long run because of my 3 points? In Florida, How much (if any) will my auto insurance rate increase with 3 points on my license?
The points you get on your license have NOTHING to do with your insurance. You will be charged for a conviction. Not having those points will keep you further away from losing your license, but if your not in danger of losing your license I wouldn't bother with the course.

The ONLY way to not get hit for the violation on your insurance is to be found NOT GUILTY, and pay no fine.

As far as how much your ins. will increase, every company does it differently. It may go up a lot, a little or not at all. Call them and ask, they should be able to ';quote it';In Florida, How much (if any) will my auto insurance rate increase with 3 points on my license?
The insurance companies set your rates not the state. my insurance company will hit you with $100 per point penalty on my rates for five years. So you would best be advised to ask your insurance company what would be best.

Why do female drives like they own the streets?

I really observe how female drive when I am out driving in the street. I see more male drivers are considerate enough to let anyone change lane without speeding up, and letting people cut in front of them. When I observe a female drive is I hardly ever see them letting people in or is considerate enough to even wave thank you when they are let in. I am a female myself but damm ladiez we need to not hog and think we own the street. Why do female drives like they own the streets?
Well, I am glad you ask this question, but I do not know where to begin. I cannot tell you how much I agree with you on this. I have noticed many women: put on their make up while driving = WRONG, talking on the phone when they know it is illegal know without using bluetooth = OUTLAW, even getting mad at pedestrian when they almost hit them while driving and talking on the phone = MENTALLY RETARTED (for that particular person); would not allow other driver to get in the freeway but sped up to beat them = EGOCENTRIC, and lastly, they are one crazy driver I tell you = NRONG. No, it is not a typo. It is not even WRONG anymore, it is NRRONGG at many level. However, men cannot live without women, and you just have to love them and not hate them. We all have our flaws, so it is okay ladies. Don't feel bad for your handicap....:) j/k...............................by the way, take the 1st letter of every capitalized word above and see what it said.

peace out.Why do female drives like they own the streets?
I disagree. In my experience, it's always the males who do that kind of thing. The drivers who speed, are rude, cut lanes, and do many other things were never women, from what I've seen. It's fact that reckless drivers are usually men, although this doesn't mean that all men are reckless. This is why men's car insurance is higher than women's, at least in Canada.
    I have noticed this myself.

Women are becoming more aggressive in not just driving but in everything. Women are becoming used to getting their way and dominating. Now they are taking that behavior out on the streets and trying to rule the roads.
female do this only with females. This is becuase of ineherent jealousy in their nature.

I can't stop myself from saying truth due to fear of tumbs down. I am sorry if I hurt. You see, psychological facts can't be denied.
I see this behavior from both men and woman where I live. Traffic is terrible here so maybe that is why.

How do you tell someone you love that they cant drive?

I am trying to teach my wife from NYC how to drive and I think she needs classes. She thinks she is ready but still has trouble changing lanes. How would you let her know that classes may help? How do you tell someone you love that they cant drive?
Hey, her life, or other lives could be at stake by her bad driving. Just tell her outright like I told my husband. Say it nicely but SAY IT. Her life is important and so are the others on the road when she is driving. How do you tell someone you love that they cant drive?
    Say ';I think classes may help.';
    Just be honest.

If she really loves you, she won't get mad.
    ';Hun I think you should touch up on your lane changing. But i'm not much help so how bout classes or something?';

this way is good because you arn't forcing it on her, and it doesn't sound like you've been thinking about it.
jus say..baby i know your a good driver but i just think you should take classes to make you even better because NYC drivers are absoluley crazy!!! and i just want you to be safe so i want you to take these classes.for me at least=)
be honest she isnt going to leave you because of driving:D ask he if she wants you too help thats always sweet:D, you guys could be together and you can be teacher her you both win
    Just. Tell. Her.
...how would you let her know that classes may help?

LOUDLY!! Nah, just kidding - why don't you give her the practice she needs changing lanes? Maybe she doesn't want to go to class?
with the fast, congested traffic in so many places, and changing road conditions due to weather and traffic, I think most adults realize a good drivers training course is in their best interest. The days when people learned on their own or were ';taught'; by a friend are long gone, and young adults now seem to learn in Drivers Ed and there is a good reason for that: Safety!!

You want her and her passengers to be safe on the road, and classes would be a good way to sharpen her skills and driving judgment.

  • I have two tickets and I am not able to pay it without coming to the court, what should I do?

I have two tickets for no proof of insurance and unsafe change lane. I was required to appear in the court in Dec 2nd. I dont want to. I want to pay it without appearing in the court. The problem is my citation information was not in the system. Therefore, I dont know how much for these tickets, and I cant pay online. Are these violence really serious and required me to appear in the court? I am living in GA.I have two tickets and I am not able to pay it without coming to the court, what should I do?
My cousin's friend has the same issue. His friend's California ticket was not in the system. He kept calling the court house, and he even showed up at the court house before or on the ticket due date.

Still, the ticket was not in the system.

Then, later, after 6 months, he got a letter from the court saying that he did NOT appear at the court house, and the fine is $2000.00+.

    Crazy! It sucks!

My suggestion to you is that you should visit the court house before the ticket due date, and ask the clerk about it.

Ask for his full name, and ask for his Supervisor's full name.

Ask them to proof that you were at the courthouse to deal with this issue before or on the ticket due date.

Ask them that you need someone/something/letter/writtings to proof that you were at the courthouse to deal with your ticket. A MUST DO !!! MUST HAVE !!!

Otherwise, after a few months, you may end up like my cousin's friend which is very troublesome.

    ==============

Besides that, I was able to beat seven (7) California tickets in the past 2 years. All by the method of Trial By Written Declaration (TBWD). You just need to call the court, and ask to contest your ticket by TBWD. You will need to download a form TR-205 and mail out the bail (ticket payment), and explain your reason in TR-205. With TBWD, you don't have to show up at the courthouse. Make sure you mail TR-205 about 2 weeks before your ticket due date.

If you were found guilty, you still have one more chance to appeal which is called Trial de Novo (TDN).

At TDN, you have to show up in court , and if the Officer did not show up, you win. If he show up, do this:

    1) Ask the Judge for his TBWD since he is to turn in his TBWD within one month.

    2) Use your reasonings from TBWD, and attack/corss examine the Officer.

Yet another question about women and multitasking: How much is too much multitasking?

Do you think that, at some point after the term 'multitasking' came into use, that women began to elevate it to a standard to live up to? Over the past few years, I've begun to see women performing some of the most incongruous actions together.

Earlier today, for example, I saw a woman putting on her mascara, drinking a Starbuck's latte, reading Martha Stewart's Living, talking on one cellphone while texting on another, breastfeeding her twins, solving a Rubik's Cube, and getting a Brazilian wax, all while driving 75 MPH on Interstate 5 (and she even signaled when changing lanes).

I have to admit, I was impressed, but I wonder: do any of you women catch yourself doing excessive multitasking out of some self-created societal pressure? After all, you now have a standard from which you're measured.Yet another question about women and multitasking: How much is too much multitasking?
    That woman is my hero.

Yes, I do catch myself multi-tasking to the point of excess at times. We live in a high paced society, and it's always go go go, from dusk til' dawn. However, I have begun to make a conscious effort to not over-do it. Stress is bad for your health. If I don't get to wash the dishes because I spent an extra hour reading books with my daughter, or making a nice, time consuming 6 course meal for my family, so be it. Nobody's going to remember if I had dishes in my sink 30 years from now. They're going to remember the together time we had, and that's what matters to me.Yet another question about women and multitasking: How much is too much multitasking?
Wow you caught a good one.

Usually the ones I see are driving, talking on their cell phone and trying to hit my car without signaling (that's only 3, come on now ladies). Good thing I pay attention to other cars while I drive. You wont be hitting me any time soon!

Did you get the license number of the one you saw? You should give her a trophy.
The only multitasking I can do is answering q's on Yahoo Answers while at work. ;)

Besides that though, I must be a freak of nature because I don't have any multitasking abilities. I can't even concentrate on a book if the TV or music is on.
Was she driving with her feet (since her arms were full with twins {the girls and the GIRLS)) while getting a Brazilian?

Could I get the number of that person who does Brazilians in transit?
How about being a lady in the streets and freak in the sheets? lol...it requires role playing, taking on different personalities, looks, body language, verbal language...would you consider that too much multi-tasking? lol
Sometimes I have watch tv and talk on the cell-phone... while having sex... Thats pretty much as much multi-tasking as it gets...
I dont know why they make such a great deal about multitasking. Men can focus better on a single task than women do Although women are famous for their ability to multi-task, due to a thicker corpus collosum in the center of the brain (better communication between the 2 hemispheres), this same trait makes them more easily distracted and more difficult for them to focus all your attention to a single task. Now, what is more efficient? doing everything at the same time or doing everything in series quickly? ask an industrial engineer, or a manager, and they would say the latter.

I cant believe how some of the women that answered this question about how they use multitasking so proudly! My way of solving tasks is more efficient (series tasking, proven fact) and i dont go aroud bragging about it.

Jennifer C: thats not multitasking, thats doing tasks in a series, men麓s way. its more efficient so keep up the good work!
Oh my god! I can't believe you saw me! Well, that's all in a day's work. In fact, right now I'm practicing my magic tricks (that rabbit keeps getting away from me), reading Proust, gutting some fish, plucking my eybrows, learning how to play guitar, and doing the NY Times crossword. In pen. Oh yea. We women rock!!!
I'm always multi-tasking. While I'm at work, I usually have a running list of items to get at the grocery store, to do items like stopping for gas and washing the car, and usually will throw in some bill paying and calling to make appointments for this or that. Then when I get home, I am making dinner, helping with homework, doing some chores, catching up on e-mail, etc. There are times when I've burned dinner or lost my train of thought, forgetting why I even walked into a room.
Chewing nicotine gum while while rubbing one out is all I can handle.
I think my multitasking is due to a short attention span. I tend to start a project, not finish it, start another and end up working on both and so on. I wouldn't say I feel societal pressure. Then again, right now I am doing homework, this, and laundry, just gave the cat some water too. Hmmm....I did those things because I can though, not because of pressure. I think....geez, this is harder than my homework.
Too busy multitasking so can't give you the answer you need.
First, someone slapped a label on the behavior. Then, they assigned it as a primarily female trait. And finally, someone decided to glorify it, and render it worthy of respect. Sigh.

Multitasking is not a revered technique. The truth is, many women are TERRIBLE at it! As far as I'm concerned, it demonstrates a lack of organizational and time management skills.
Most days I feel like that woman! :-) I think society has so many demands to keep life going forward successfully that multitasking is the only way to keep up. I am currently working a government job fulltime, raising a child by myself, and working on my PhD. My life is planned out down to the last minute of the day with organization and what not until the point I have self-induced OCD! I

I agree that somewhere along the way I will pass out or have a full blown stroke. More apt I am going to put my eye out driving down the work while dropping my son off to school, the bills in the mail, putting my contacts in, talking on the phone, and giving an order for whatever I need to the drive through lady. :-)
