Why do so few drivers use turn signals?

Isn't it as courtesy to other drivers to let them know that you'll be turning or changing lanes?



Don't you have to prove that you know how to use turn signals or hand signals when taking the driving test for a license?Why do so few drivers use turn signals?
According to Response Insurance, a national car insurer, 42% of those drivers say they don’t have enough time, 23% admit they are just plain “lazy,” 17% don’t signal because when they do, they forget to turn it off, 12% admit they are changing lanes too frequently to bother, 11% say it is not important, 8% say they don’t signal because other drivers don’t, and perhaps most disturbing 7% say forgoing the signal “adds excitement to driving.”



The Company identified several driver-types when it comes to ignoring turn signals – Impulsive, Lazy, Forgetful, Swervers, Ostriches, Followers, and the Dare Devils.



The bottom line is that most drivers are failing to see the importance of using their turn signals.........Why do so few drivers use turn signals?
Bad habit, basically.



People forget to do it all the time....and then they simply don't do it any of the time.



Most people also don't remember how to properly parallel park. Not quite the same thing, but same concept. Don't do something often enough, and you just get used to not doing it.
It's not just courtesy, it's the law. You are supposed to give a signal or you can get a ticket for ';failure to signal.'; I hate it when people don't give a signal and just slow way down then turn. Drives me crazy.
true you do have too when testing true you should used them everytime you turn i try my self to i always do when turning into a drive or parking lot where i have to slow to a stop never in a turn lane and most of time when i switch lanes just to let others know im coming over not so much if theirs no one there or if they far away but your right many dont used them at all .. they wil get their meaning one day th e hard way
Because people are not thinking about there job driving most people are lazy and dont think about there are in a car/ truck
Imo some people are too distracted with other things and or forget to use them.
People tend to drive as if they are in their own little world and nothing outside their car effects them. It's the same reason you see so many people sitting in their car digging for gold or jamming out to a song singing at the top of their lungs. They would be too embarrassed to do this in public but they'll sit in their car and do it for the whole world to see.



It's a pretty dangerous perception to have because it's the people who aren't paying attention to the what's going on outside their car who are going to cause an accident.
Actually, in Michigan, you can get a ticket for not using your turn signal. But people are just lazy...including the police, for not enforcing the law, by not giving these lazy people a ticket.
They don't put signal lights on all vehicles. Didn't you know that? Seriously though, I think people just assume you know which way they are going. I also think some people do it just to tick off the other drivers.
Because they're idiotic drivers who shouldn't be allowed on the road. What's more, you know full well that if you cut them up in any way (because they hadn't indicated) they will blame you.
Because they are to stupid to figure out how they work.
