How to get a traffic ticket deferred?

I am going to court tomorrow (in Colorado) for a changing lanes when unsafe traffic ticket, I was told to go on my court date and get it deferred. I am wondering what the judge will ask me and what exactly I say, ';yes, I'm guilty and I want it deferred'; or do I not admit guilt and ask for the ticket to be deferred. I've never been to court and I have no idea what to expect. Thanks for any help you might have! How to get a traffic ticket deferred?
If you want to discuss it with the judge, you need to plea no contest or guilty. If you plea not guilty, the judge will not discuss the matter with you and the case will be scheduled for trial. You should then have the opportunity to meet with the prosecutor and request a deferral.

It is all a matter of taking your chances with the judge or with the prosecutor. How to get a traffic ticket deferred?
