Changing lanes/merging?

How do you know if you have enough room to merge or change lanes? the thing about having 2 seconds apart from the other car or something like that doesn't work for me.Changing lanes/merging?
Accelerate when changing lanes to create a maximum distance and slow to normal when clear.Changing lanes/merging?
Well, if you can see the entire car in the next lane over in your side mirror, and they appear to be letting you in, go for it. Be sure to check your blind spots and make sure you have room in front.
if you can see both head lights in your rear view then you have plenty of room. In heavier traffic, you just have to get comfortable with not always merging with the optimum amount of space between you and the other car.
Check all of your mirrors, if you feel the need look over your shoulder to the lane you are merging into, do so. Make sure there is enough room for yourself. I would also reccomend that you ensure you allow adequate room so you do not upset anyone you may be merging in front of (I. E. Cutting them off)

Thats all you can do, and you have to learn how to deal with it. Nobody else on the road will feel bad for you, and very few will accomodate you.

Sorry to say but thats just how it is.
You look at the space you want to move into. You look at everything going on around that space and then you use your judgement to decide whether it is a safe move or not.

Not trying to be nasty, but if you had to ask this question, you should not merge or change lanes unless you have 1/4 mile clear to do so. I assume you are a new driver and judgement of speed and distance will come to you with experience.
