How can I make my car faster? Has slow pickup.

I have a 1987 Pontiac 6000 sedan. I enjoy everything about the car with only one exception, it has terrible pickup speed. I drive to and from work on expressways and when needing to merge into traffic or when needing to change lanes, the gas pedal almost has to be floored to get any decent amount of pickup. What relatively inexpensive things can improve a cars horsepower? I'm leary about any type of ';liquids'; that you can buy over the counter and pour into your engine, as I've heard of those. you can have a turbo or supercharger installed, you could get a cold air intake for cheap, or just a really good exhaust system will do it.

Is that a carb engine. Carb engines are very weak when it gets old. Try putting in some carb cleaner gasoline additive (safe) and using some carb cleaner spary.

If it is fuel injected engine, then try fuel injector cleaner too.

Good luck...
NO LIQUIDS. A cold air filter will help, so would a modified exhaust.
change your fuel filter, air filter and pcv valve they are clogged ....bad pickup speed and having trouble climbing inclines are a sign of those clogs................autozone.com has a online repair manual with step by step instructions and diagrams to help you
updating sparkplugs and wires to performance plugs and wires and update the distributor cap also if it has a distributor if not the plugs and wires give more get up and go
