How should I handle a 'Careless Operation' citation?

I was in a fender bender. Without even examing the skidmarks layed down by the other car, the North Charleston (SC) police officer immediately held me at fault with the answer 'You were changing lanes, it's your responsibility.' She didn't bother to examine the skidmarks layed down by the other vehicle. She pretty much immediately put it on me. Do I A) Plead guilty and explain I simply did not see them until I was in the lane during change, despite having looked, and can that reduce, or is pleading guilty automatically accepting the fine. Or, B) Plead not guilty, explain the officer didn't bother to examine or measure the skidmarks layed down by the other vehicle, let alone even walk over to the actual impact spot (we pulled off the road.) I don't want to waste time going to court if I'm not likely to see it dropped/lowered from 250.00, but if I go, am I best served w/ guilty and explanation, or not guilty?How should I handle a 'Careless Operation' citation?

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't matter what you do, it's still your fault because you were the one changing lanes.



It was your responsibility to make sure that you had enough time and room to get over.



Sorry, but that's the law. Next time be more careful and thank the Lord that no one got hurt and it's only $250.00 and you still have your license.

I think it may just depend on what exactly happened in the accident...you didn't provide details on things.



For example....if you rear-end someone and it was because the person in front of you stopped quickly for whatever reason, you, most likely, will be found at fault since you need to travel at a safe-distance from the vehicle in front of you and that sort of thing...even if the driver in front of you made skid marks when stopping.



So....that is just an example of what I mean..but it really depends on what your situation was.
