I'm learning to drive. How should I view the side and rear mirrors when driving and changing lanes?

In this situation most driving examiners (the folks that give you the road test) will expect you to signal your intention to turn/change lanes, look over your shoulder, check ALL of your mirrors, then again look over your shoulder before turning/changing lanes.
