I'm terrified to change lanes! What can I do?

I have my permit (I could go for my license if I wanted to now but I'm not ready) and I just get really scared when I want to change lanes. I guess it's because I'm relying on a mirror to decided my fate haha. I don't know why but it just seems to hard to change lanes. Does anyone have any helpful tips? How can I practice changing lanes without killing myself? I see people do it so quickly and easily and I just can't!

ThanksI'm terrified to change lanes! What can I do?
Go a little faster than the person you are trying to pass, then check your mirror but DO NOT RELY ON JUST YOUR MIRRORS!

Turn your head and check your blind spot, signal, then move over.

But never rely on your mirrors only... they can easily get bumped in a parking lot.I'm terrified to change lanes! What can I do?
when ur about to change lanes, ur instinct tells you to slow down, but definetly maintain speed. Also in order to get the confidence you may even want to speed up, that way you dont have to worry as much about whats behind you. But that is not something you want to do on the test, only something to get the confidence.
Use your mirrors, but turn your head and look before you make the change. I have seen tons of people trying to change lanes these days who won't turn their head to look where they're going. It is a matter of time before two of them crash into each other for not looking around. Once you get used to looking around first, you'll get better at making lane changes. Also, make a signal when you first decide you want to change so other people know what's going on and they can give you space. The signal means, ';I'd like to change lanes.'; It does not mean , ';Hey move out of my way.'; Too many people won't signal and cause dangerous situations or crashes.

Having the permit allows you to practice driving and that is why it's called a ';LEARNER'S PERMIT';. It is also required that you have a licensed driver with you while you learn, and the reason is that the experienced person can tell you what you're supposed to do and how to learn to drive. If your licensed driver doesn't tell you what you should do, get someone to go with you who will tell you how to drive correctly.
well first let me start off by, thats pathetic. timothy, that means your a boy...so thats pretty sad that your scared to turn the wheeel very slightly.

ok sorry about that, now back to businesss. there is nothing wrong with ';relying'; on a mirror. if you have it set soo that you can seee everything in the lane next to you than your goood. all you have to do is to check your rear view mirror in the middle of your car, than loook at your side view mirror...and if its safe than go. and if your scared and not sure that its safe than just dont go over as fast. if you slowly drift over than they will slow down. or just put your blinker on unitl they let you over. its quite frankly one of the easiest things to do when driving, trust me! and if you dont wanna rely on the mirror than just hold onto the wheel with one hand and turn around and look over yours houlder, but i wouldnt reccoment that until youve mastered it with a mirror. after you do it like 3 times it will be a piece of cake. just keep on practicing and you'll be able to do it without even loooking. haha

hope i helped.

good luck [:
1) Throw away the mirrors and start using your neck muscles.

2) You have to match speed using your right pedal before shifting lanes.

3) Civilized people will make a space for you if you signal before shifting lanes, but no one is civilized when they have the anonymity of a 3 ton Status Urban Vehicle, so use your indicator to get that bunghole in your rear 3/4 area to speed up and pass you (this is the case 99% of the time. If the guy actually slows to let you in thank him with a wave and know that you've met the one nice driver you'll meet all year).

4) Timidity gets you nowhere in life. I don't know where you are, but it takes some decisiveness to survive the mean streets. Realize you won't change anything, but can learn the real world rules and use them to your advantage.
you do what steam locomotive engineers do. you can look back and see for your self. or do what i do stick your head out the window. it may sound stupid. but it works.
